LA Galaxy, Tigres UANL inseparable in first leg encounter

CARSON, Calif. — LA Galaxy and Tigres UANL played to a scoreless draw in the first leg of their quarterfinals series as the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup continued Tuesday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, USA.
Juan Brunetta struck from inside the penalty arc in the 10’, but his attempt ended in the arms of LA Galaxy goalkeeper John McCarthy.
Joaquim Henrique headed a ball towards goal in the 17’, connecting on a corner kick service from Brunetta, but McCarthy was there to avert the danger.
Nicolás Ibáñez had a promising look from short range in the 41’, but McCarthy delivered the quick reaction to collect another save.
Isaiah Parente tried to get the hosts on the board from long range in the 65’, but Tigres UANL goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán was unphased and denied the attempt.
Matheus Nascimento tried to capitalize following a Galaxy free kick service in the 73’ but Guzmán again was alert to extinguish the effort from the home side.
Ozziel Herrera struck inside the box in the 84’, but his left-footed hit was blocked by McCarthy.
McCarthy ended the night with four saves and his first clean sheet of the campaign. Guzmán finished with two saves and his second clean sheet.
The two sides will play the second leg next Tuesday at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, Mexico. The winner on aggregate will advance to the semifinals.
