The LA Galaxy is yet to win a game since the 2025 MLS season commenced. Greg Vanney's side is in woeful form, and might even set a new low.
Last night, the LA Galaxy looked set to finally overturn their MLS hoodoo and win their first game of the season so far. The Galaxy went two goals up, courtesy of first-half finishes from Mauricio Cuevas and Diego Fagundez, but the game was far from over.
In the second half, the home side, Philadelphia Union, had a mountain to climb, but they climbed it with ease. An almost immediate response after the whistle was blown from Nathan Harriel gave home fans a reason to stay in their seats.
From there, it was the Tai Baribo show as he scored immediately after the kick-off from Harriel's goal to equalize for the Union. A mammoth 22 shots in total and 57% possession personified the fact that there was only bound to be one winner, and Baribo made sure of that in added time.
Last night's 3-2 loss cements one thing for the Galaxy: they are winless all season so far. They remain the only side, in both the Eastern and Western conferences, to be without a league win.
On paper, losing to the Union doesn't feel like worthy of mockery. However, it's how the Galaxy lost last night which makes the negative spotlight appear ever so brightly on them.
After 13 games played, the Galaxy has racked up a measly three points. So, when fans say the situation is bad, it's BAD.
As it stands, the LA Galaxy is projected to pick up only eight points before the table phase comes to an end. This would make the Galaxy the worst team in MLS' short history.
Currently, that record is held shamefully by Tampa Bay Mutiny (since dissolved) in 2001. In that season, the Mutiny scored just 14 points on the board, which is almost double what the Galaxy is projected to hit.
Of course, there is still time for the Galaxy to make amends. They just need to see out wins and not let the pressure of the hoodoo get to them.
