A head-turning story surrounding developments in the aftermath of the meeting between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night has today come to the fore online.

Barca and PSG of course locked horns in the 2nd leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie in Catalunya two nights ago.

When all was said and done, it was the latter who emerged triumphant, a 4-1 victory giving rise to a 6-4 aggregate scoreline in favour of Luis Enrique’s side.

Post-match, it should in turn come as little surprise to hear that PSG’s stars were in jubilant mood at Montjuïc.

As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, however, amid their celebrations on Tuesday, things quickly spiralled out of control for the French champions and Barcelona alike.

This comes with a sizable brawl having broken out in the tunnel at Montjuïc.

Kylian Mbappé is said to have been the instigator, with the France international’s shouts of “this is football and it is on the field where we have to talk” having been taken as an insult on the part of several members of Xavi’s Barcelona squad.

Still crestfallen by developments over the course of the 90 minutes, these players in turn made a beeline for Mbappé, culminating in ‘a pileup in which there were insults, shouts and shoving between players, coaching staff, and assistance and security personnel, with a crowd of more than sixty people having formed’.

In the end, tensions were calmed before anyone was hurt, but the damage, from a club relations point of view, had long been done.
