Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany returns to England on Wednesday as the club prepares to face Aston Villa in the Champions League.
Here is everything the boss had to say during his pre-match pressure, including an update on Harry Kane.
âHarry Kane trained today and it went well. But we have to wait until tomorrow and be sure if things stay that way â then we can calmly make the right decision. Hopefully everything stays well.â
âEveryone knows itâs been over 40 years since Aston Villa last played in the Champions League. What they achieved last season is extraordinary, they deserve it. They are a very well organised team with a good atmosphere at home. But Bayern Munich are used to these nights â and we want to enjoy it ourselves and hopefully the players are excited to play here.â
âI think everything Aston Villa does is very clear: they are very well organised, you can see what they want to achieve in every phase. They play compactly â itâs a very similar style to Leverkusen [on Saturday]. The compactness between the lines, how they want to be dangerous on the counterattack, how they want to make runs behind them. They do that very well â and thatâs why they were so successful last season.â
âWe donât have to compare anything that was under past coaches and whatâs now. Thatâs not in my thoughts for a second. Itâs all about the team now and how I think I can reach the boys. And itâs not a second about the past. Weâve all made mistakes, everyone in this room. Thatâs life. Now we have a chance to all achieve something new together. Itâs a new season â thatâs what itâs all about.â
âI donât have to prove anything as a coach. I think itâs important to keep things separate. Every challenge you take on has a different context. The most important thing for a coach is to say: Have I really done everything I can to get the best out of the team? When you come home every night, you might say Iâm tired, but if Iâve done everything I can to make the team better, Iâm happy. I have a new club, a new team, a new task. You have to leave the past behind you. Itâs not about me now, itâs about the players and the club.â
