Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne has now bought a new home in the Naples region, according to Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The fast-moving nature of the deal is now intensifying following the conclusion of Manchester City’s season in London on Sunday afternoon, and also the end of Kevin De Bruyne’s playing career under Pep Guardiola.
Following a 10-season stay at the Etihad Stadium, the 33-year-old bid farewell to his home faithful via a 3-1 win over Bournemouth, before a substitute appearance against Fulham as part of a win to secure UEFA Champions League farewell would mark his final outing.
Since his exit was confirmed in an emotional statement on social media, numerous clubs have been linked with his services including sides in the United States’ MLS, the Saudi Pro League, and top-level sides throughout Europe.
And having weighed up all of his options, with a clear desire to remain at the summit of European football and whilst putting his family’s best interests at the forefront of his thinking, it seems as though a conclusion is now near.
Speaking during a new interview with Italian outlet Rai Sport, as translated and relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Napoli owner Aurelio Di Laurentiis confirmed several pieces of information surrounding the club’s attempts to bring Kevin De Bruyne to the club.
“I really think Kevin De Bruyne will now join us,” he said on Monday.
“I’m told he’s already bought a beautiful house… I spoke to KDB, his wife, his kid this morning, it’s been beautiful… Until contracts are signed, we must be careful,” he added.
Additional comments from Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna also confirmed the advanced nature of a switch as he told reporters, “We’ve been working on the Kevin De Bruyne deal for months… and we’re now about to see the finish line.”
A free transfer move to Napoli will mean that Kevin De Bruyne will firmly remain at the forefront of the very summit of the game, competing to retain the club’s Serie A title next season whilst also starring in the UEFA Champions League.
Featuring in Europe’s premier club competition alongside the likes of Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku, De Bruyne could yet come up against his soon-to-be-former side Manchester City in the Champions League next season.
The imminent conclusion of an agreement also now means that De Bruyne is highly unlikely to feature for Manchester City at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which begins towards the end of June.
