Crystal Palace manager Laura Kaminski said that the Eagles must keep morale up after shipping seven against Chelsea on Friday night.

Palace, who were newly promoted to the WSL this season, have conceded eleven goals in their first two matches, losing 4-0 to Tottenham on opening day.

Crystal Palace started well against Chelsea, creating chances in the first half and limiting the visitors to one goal before crumbling in the second period, shipping six goals after the break, three of which came in the final 20 minutes.

Kaminski has backed her squad to remain focused and recover despite the poor start.

She said: “We just need to keep focus with the small steps, marginal gains, all the steps we took to win a league.

“We need to make marginal gains week in week out and eventually the cream will rise to the top.”

She backs herself to be the one to inspire that change.

She said: “It is my job as a manager and leader of the squad to ensure that the targets are set and we work as hard as we can to achieve them.

“If we fall short of achieving them, I have to pick the squad up along with my staff and make sure we don’t let them sink, because if they sink we will only struggle.”

Kaminski also thanked the supporters for backing the team and acknowledging the scale of their achievement.

“It’s about as tough as it gets as a start for a club that has just come up, but it is my job to figure out how to knit this team together.

“The fans deserve some credit for their reaction to the way that we hae began this journey, and it feels for me that the fans have an understanding of this group and their level and what they are trying to achieve.

“Every game is really really important for us, but the fans have stuck by the squad and it does feel to me that they understand the mammoth task that is in front of us, but we have a mountain to climb.

“We have information now of where we are at, we have information of how we are conceding and why, we have information on shapes and tactical things, so now it is our job to acton what we have found a push forwards.”
