Nicolò Fagioli started the season well but has quickly fallen to the wayside even though Juventus have gone through a laundry list of injuries in recent months. He has gotten the nod just twice in the last 11 matches and has logged less than 45 minutes in the past month.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the midfielder is growing discontent and could ask out. The Bianconeri might comply. He’s not an essential piece, and unlike for Douglas Luiz, the financial benefits would be evident since he’s a homegrown talent.
Fagioli had seemingly won over new Juventus coach Thiago Motta early, temporarily supplanting Manuel Locatelli. He had a great showing versus RB Leipzig. However, the gaffer has gone back to the veteran, who might be less gifted but is very consistent and contributes more defensively. He’s been used as a no.10 in his recent cameos, which have left a lot to be desired. The boss doesn’t like up-and-down players in games and training.
The valuation of the 23-year-old is €25/30M. Roberto De Zerbi would gladly coach him at Olympique Marseille. Napoli director Giovanni Manna is a fan, but there have been no contacts to discuss him. A transfer could help him become a regular for Italy too.
It feels like Motta gave everybody a shot but then is hard to sway when he settled on a regular XI. If he’s not superb, his traits overlap those of other linchpins, so he’s indeed expendable, and their other needs are a big factor. There could also be Teun Koopmeiners as a ‘regista’ in their future once they are in better shape offensively.
