Manchester City’s reported interest in Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso has been addressed by the club themselves in public comment for the first time.

Reports in Italy have been widespread throughout the last few days indicating that the Premier League champions could intensify their hunt for the versatile Italian defender in the remaining days of the January market.

In fact, the idea of interest from the Etihad Stadium has been confirmed by English media too, who have played down the idea of a January move to some extent, insisting that it may be a transfer that is explored in the summer market instead.

However, claims from Fabrizio Romano indicated that Manchester City would be wanting to explore conversations with Juventus over a move for Cambiaso this week, with talks on the side of the player already positive and moving towards an agreement on personal terms.

Speaking during a recent press conference, Juventus head coach Thiago Motta has insisted that despite interest from Manchester City, mainstay full-back Andrea Cambiaso is ‘untransferable’ for the Italian giants.

“I see him very well and he will play (against AC Milan). I don’t like talking about the transfer market,” Motta admitted on Friday afternoon.

He continued, “Andrea (Cambiaso) is very well; he will be on the pitch tomorrow. That’s for sure.

“Untransferable? Yes, I already have asked for players not to be sold. And they kept them.”

Manchester City remain in talks over the future of existing players within their first-team squad, and particularly in the right-back role, which may indicate the stepped-up approach towards signing a new player in the position.

Club captain Kyle Walker signalled his intention to explore his options away from English football earlier this month, and the understanding is that the 34-year-old is leaning towards a switch to AC Milan.

It remains to be seen whether the two clubs involved in talks will come to an agreement over a transfer fee, or whether a loan with obligation to buy format could be sanctioned given the lack of time remaining in the current market and urgency from the player’s side to move.
