Manchester City have learned who they will face at the 2025 Club World Cup following a glitzy group stage draw in Miami.

The new-look Club World Cup, a 32-team tournament taking place between June 15 and July 13, 2025, will be held in stadiums across the United States, with FIFA seeing the event as a warmup for the 2026 World Cup, which will stage matches across North America.

Speaking at the draw, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “Football has united the world through the World Cup, but there was nothing for clubs… The club world cup will be a new era for football.”

Who, then, will City be facing as they embark on this new era? The draw did not start particularly well, as Juventus were the second name out of the hat in Group H. The Bianconieri are among the most famous sides in football history, with 36 league titles, 15 Coppa Italia, and nine Italian Super Cups to their name.

They will comfortably be City’s toughest opposition, as the next name drawn was Wydad AC, who City will face in their opening match of the tournament. Based out of Casablanca, the club was borne as a water polo team, only expanding into football in 1939. They became a force of African football in short order, winning three CAF Champions League trophies, and still operate teams in a handful of other sports including basketball, volleyball, and fencing.

The final addition into the group was Al Ain, the most decorated football club in the UAE. Founded in 1968 by a group of Bahraini students, they have risen to great heights, winning the AFC Champions League twice. In the 2024 edition of the tournament they knocked Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr side out on penalties in the quarter-finals, but went on to lose to Yokohama F.Marinos in the final.
