It was a complicated match in Bologna, both in terms of the league standings and the threat that the Bianconeri's opponent posed. Juve started well, eventually bringing home an important point (the match finished in a one-all draw, with Khephren Thuram and Remo Freuler the scorers) that leaves the table unchanged with just three matches left of the league campaign. Igor Tudor’s side, who fought hard this evening, remain fourth place firmly in the standings.
But let's go start from the beginning…
Juventus started on the front foot and showed great determination. Their reward came in the 9th minute: Khephren Thuram took the lead with a powerful but central shot, which Lukasz Skorupski was unable to prevent, letting the ball slip through his hands and into the net.
Bologna tried to react, relying on Nicolo Cambiaghi's pace and Ricccardo Orsolini's movement, but the Bianconeri defence - well marshalled by Nicolo Savona and an attentive Michele Di Gregorio - did not concede any real scoring chances.
In the 42nd minute, Juventus thought they had doubled lead through Nico Gonzalez, who finished well to beat Skorupski, but the Argentine forward was deemed to have started from an offside position and the goal was disallowed.
Juventus restarted the second half with the same eleven, but Bologna came out more determined. The Bianconeri stood firm and came close to grabbing a second in the 49th minute with a great left-footed strike from the edge of the area by Andrea Cambiaso which beat Skorupski, but the Italian was offside by centimetres. Again, VAR ruled it out.
In the 52nd minute, the home team found the equaliser: following a well-worked move down the right, Cambiaghi's cross picked out Thijs Dallinga, whose header was diverted goalwards by Freuler, with a deflection off Renato Veiga wrongfooting Di Gregorio. 1-1.
In the 60th minute Alberto Costa came on in place of Cambiaso, and it was he who came close to scoring the winning goal: in the 75th minute the chance came via Randal Kolo Muani before the ball eventually rolled to the feet of Costa, who failed to finish past an alert Skorupski. A sensational chance.
In the final minutes Bologna tried to find the winner: Cambiaghi and Lewis Ferguson went close to finding the back of the net, but the former's strike was blocked by Weston McKennie, and the latter’s effort flew over the bar. At the other end, Juventus were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area, but Douglas Luiz was unable to convert.
One a piece at the final whistle, with it all to play for in the final 270 minutes of the season.
