Former Stade Rennais and Strasbourg manager Julien Stéphan has emerged as a candidate to take over at English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, according to Foot Mercato. The London club are actively searching for a new head coach after parting ways with Spaniard Martí Cifuentes at the end of the season. Cifuentes was dismissed after holding talks with other English clubs without informing QPR’s hierarchy. The Hoops finished 15th in the second tier, where they currently count Jonathan Varane—the younger half-brother of Raphaël Varane—among their ranks.Out of work since leaving Rennes early last season, Stéphan is reportedly open to the idea of coaching abroad and is particularly attracted by the opportunity to work in England. The 44-year-old, best known for leading Rennes to their 2019 Coupe de France title, changed representatives earlier this spring in a bid to relaunch his career.
Having already managed in Ligue 1 with both Rennes and Strasbourg, Stéphan is now seeking a new challenge and could be tempted by the project at Loftus Road.GFFN | George Boxall
