Liverpool Eyeing Alexander Isak as Arne Slot Continues Title Defence

Fresh off a triumphant Premier League-winning debut campaign, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are not pausing for breath. With five new signings already through the door, including Giorgi Mamrdashvili, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, the club is now aggressively pursuing a marquee forward addition: Alexander Isak.

The Swedish international, currently Newcastle United’s standout performer, is firmly on Liverpool’s radar as the Reds look to bolster their attacking line. And as journalist Lewis Steele revealed on his YouTube channel, there is a growing sense of inevitability that a formal bid is coming.

“The latest from the Newcastle United end is that they are ready for that first bid and they’re fearing the first bid.”

Isak’s Appeal and Why Liverpool Want Him

Isak’s combination of pace, intelligence and technical finesse fits naturally with Slot’s fluid attacking system. His ability to press from the front, drop into midfield pockets and finish with both feet has made him one of the Premier League’s most complete strikers.

As Steele points out, there is no ambiguity about Liverpool’s admiration.

“What we can say is that Liverpool like him and Alexander Isak is desperate for the move to Liverpool, so it all depends on Newcastle.”

With Hugo Ekitike likely viewed as a longer-term project and Darwin Núñez still expected to leave this summer, Slot may see Isak as a player who can lead the line consistently in domestic and European competition.

Newcastle’s Stance and the £150m Dilemma

While Liverpool are acting decisively this summer, Newcastle hold the cards for now. The Magpies are under no financial pressure to sell and have no interest in weakening their squad before a vital season under Eddie Howe. Isak, described by Steele as their “best player,” is central to that plan.

“You can’t really blame Newcastle for being stubborn because he is their best player and let’s say if Real Madrid put £150m on the table for Salah a few years ago, we would all be saying go away.”

That comparison underscores Newcastle’s position. But the pull of Liverpool, both as reigning champions and a Champions League force, may ultimately tilt the scales. Isak is reportedly eager to make the move, and player desire often proves decisive in modern deals.

Timing and Transfer Window Dynamics

There is still time for Liverpool to get this over the line, though urgency is building with the window’s end approaching. Steele notes that the moment of action may be imminent.

“I think that impact will come at some point this week or next week because there’s not long left of the transfer window but still more than enough to get this business done.”

“I do think that Liverpool will make a play at Isak, but do I think he will join? Well that depends on Newcastle.”

Liverpool’s method this summer has been deliberate but effective. They have operated like “Premier League champions,” as Steele puts it, targeting top players with intent. If Isak joins that list, it would be another statement of ambition from the Slot era.

“But Liverpool are acting like big boys now and like the Premier League champions that they are.”

As always with transfers of this magnitude, the final days of the window will bring clarity. But one thing is certain: Liverpool’s interest is real, and Isak is keen. Now it’s on Newcastle to decide whether they play ball.
