The Pompey faithful would like to see the loanee return for another spell at Fratton Park.

John Mousinho has said that Portsmouth will be ready to pounce if former loanee Abu Kamara is made available this summer by Norwich City.

The first summer transfer window that Pompey have had as a Championship club for more than a decade was kicked off with the signing of Jordan Williams. The former Barnsley captain is set to be the first of what could be a very active summer for the club.

They have previously been linked with two Crystal Palace targets, Jaydan Raymond and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

The latter wasn't allowed to leave the south London club last summer, despite plenty of interest from Championship sides following an impressive loan spell with Charlton Athletic, but the winger is said to be someone that Mousinho would love to have at Fratton Park next season.

The former was somebody that Mousinho looked to bring in last January but the club are still thought to hold interest in the midfielder.

The profile of Rak-Sakyi - a goalscoring winger - is someone that is probably more needed by Portsmouth than Raymond - a central midfielder. Kamara's return to East Anglia after all of Pompey's title-winning celebrations has left a void in wide attacking areas that a player like the Palace forward could fill.

But there is still a chance that the Norwich man could play in blue again next season.

Portsmouth's stance on Abu Kamara situation

Mousinho has refused to rule out the possibility that the 20-year-old could come back to Fratton Park next season, and added that the club will make a move for him if they have the chance of getting him.

The Canaries have a new boss in Johannes Hoff Thorup, after David Wagner was relieved of his duties following the side's play-off semi-final loss to Leeds United.

He is likely to want to give a chance to all the City players as he tries to build a squad that could push for promotion in his first season in the job.

"Abs has been away with the England under-20s, and had a massive impact there in the couple of games they’ve played," said Mousinho, via the News. "I’m assuming the new manager at Norwich will want to have a proper look at him before making a decision.

"We know Abs was excellent for us last season, but you never know what Norwich have in the building, what they’re planning to bring in or what profiles they’re looking for.

"From our point of view if Abu becomes available, we’ll be there. So we’ll keep in contact and go from there."

January move may be more likely for Kamara & Portsmouth

The new Norwich boss will have a good idea of his plans for the young winger by the time the season gets underway. But managers tend to be cautious, and he won't want to find himself caught short if there is a sudden injury crisis in Kamara's position.

Even if Thorup decides that Kamara isn't going to be a major contributor for him, he may keep him around at Carrow Road to be on the safe side.

This could lead to the winter window being a better opportunity for Pompey to strike a deal.

Both clubs will know roughly where they stand in the league by that point; whether promotion/relegation is on the cards. The managers' understanding of their squads' needs will also be pretty firm too.

If by then Kamara is still not getting regular game time, and Pompey are of no true threat to Norwich's league position, then they may be more open to letting the 20-year-old leave than they are right now.
