Joao Mario arrives: A statistical look

Joao Mario is a Juventus player, having arrived to our Men’s First Team from Porto this summer transfer window. With the Portuguese side, he made 181 appearances following his July 2020 debut, scoring five times and assisting 25 more across all competitions.

Following his arrival, we thought we’d take a deep dive into his numbers to understand our new signing a little more.

Joao Mario’s stats

Since the 2019/20 season, only Pepe (119) made more Primeira Liga appearances among Porto defenders than Joao Mario (116).
Over the same period, Joao Mario delivered the most assists (13) by a Porto defender in the league, ahead of Alex Telles (10).
He created 115 chances for teammates from open play in Primeira Liga since 2019/20, at least 45 more than any other Porto defender.
His 32 clear-cut chances created are more than double those of any other Porto defender in that span.
Joao Mario also played 210 passes into the opposition penalty area, at least 70 more than any defensive teammate.
In the 2024/25 Primeira Liga, he led Porto in crosses attempted (78) and crosses completed (24) from open play.
He also ranked first at the club for dribbles attempted (70) and completed (30) during the season.
Finally, Joao Mario created 16 chances following ball carries of five metres or more – the most of any Porto player.
