João Félix is eyeing a move back to Benfica, with both player and club reportedly open to a reunion this summer.

The Portuguese forward, who came through the academy at the Estádio da Luz, is understood to be eager to return to familiar surroundings following an underwhelming spell at Chelsea.

Félix joined Chelsea from Atlético Madrid last summer in a deal worth around £45 million, signing a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge. But the 24-year-old has struggled to make a consistent impact, making just 20 appearances across all competitions in the first half of the season - only three of those as a Premier League starter.

Benfica, meanwhile, are said to be keen on bringing their former star home, and Félix himself appears receptive. Speaking to A Bola, he hinted that a return to Lisbon could be on the cards.

Bruno Lage being coach, someone who was key in my development, definitely counts in Benfica’s favour,” Félix said. “It’s a move I’m seriously considering.”

The forward left Benfica for Atlético in a record-breaking €126 million transfer in 2019, but has yet to fully live up to the hype. A return to where it all began may be the reset he needs.
