Jeremie Frimpong will undergo his Liverpool medical today ahead of joining the Premier League champions from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Dutchman was identified as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. A search for the Englishman’s successor turned to the Bundesliga, with Frimpong the next person to leave Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso announced his departure as head coach.
Frimpong will become Liverpool’s first summer signing with the club ready to trigger the player’s reported €40m release clause. The 24-year-old has 11 goal contributions (five goals and six assists) in 33 Bundesliga games this season and has been one of Bayer’s most consistent players over the last three seasons with 22 goals and 22 assists in in 98 league games.
It was reported last week that talks over Frimpong were nearing its conclusion and it would now appear that the move is almost complete. Plettenberg reports that Frimpong will become a Liverpool player today (Monday 19th).
