It has been widely reported that the defender can leave the Lions if an offer of £1.2m is made by a Premier League club.

Obviously, that would make Tanganga a real bargain, and it’s believed that Wolves and Sunderland are among the admirers of the 26-year-old, who has been outstanding for Millwall since he joined the club.

And, that could be significant, as the release clause in Tanganga’s contract only applies to Premier League clubs.

Therefore, if any of those sides on the continent want to do a deal, they will have to speak to Millwall and agree terms, like any normal transfer.

That means the Londoners could be in a position to negotiate a fee higher than £1.2m, and any foreign side may want to act swiftly to ensure Tanganga doesn’t end up in England’s top-flight.

Japhet Tanganga is capable of playing at a higher level

It’s no surprise that there are plenty of clubs monitoring Tanganga, because he really has been brilliant for Millwall since he signed on an initial loan from Tottenham.

Tanganga has the physicality to dominate most of his opponents, he reads the game well, and he boasts good pace as well, so he has been a complete player at this level.

So, it’s frustrating for the Lions that the £1.2m release clause is in place, as it’s below his true market value, but it’s something the club had to agree to in order to get Tanganga to sign in the first place.

This development could help Millwall get a bit more money, and that would be very welcome, as boss Alex Neil is going to need to use whatever funds are available very wisely to replace the centre-back.

From Tanganga’s perspective, he has enjoyed his time at The Den, but he does have the ability to play at a higher level, whether it’s the Premier League or overseas, and whilst it’s an exciting time for Millwall as they continue to make progress, you would expect him to move on.
