The Chicago Fire have moved on from two more players as Gregg Berhalter and his group try to clear house. First, the Fire have mutually terminated the contract of Designated Player midfielder Gaston Gimenez. The 33 year old Paraguay international finishes his Fire career with 4 goals, 10 assists, and 134 career games played. To me, Gimenez always just seemed a step slow in that Fire midfield and far from a DP level. Outside of opening up a DP spot on the roster, the Fire cleared up a lot of salary space as the new regime tries to build their Chicago roster.
The Fire have transferred 29 year old centerback Tobias Salquist to Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. The defender only played about 1,000 minutes in his only season for the Fire. Salquist didn’t impress much in his limited time playing with the Fire in 2024, and this move seems like another strong one for this new front office. Now, another larger salary is cleared off the Fire’s books heading into a January transfer window.
