Jacob Ramsey will now become Eddie Howe’s fourth major signing of this summer transfer window.
The Times report that their information is that he is set to complete £38m move to Newcastle United from Aston Villa.
News (see below) only broke late on Tuesday night that United were in talks with Villa and a deal was imminent for the versatile player, who can play across the midfield as well as on both wings.
The Times say that a deal could be agreed on Jacob Ramsey before end of play on Wednesday.
A medical to swiftly follow, although Ramsey won’t be involved on Saturday against what will shortly be his former club.
The report says that Jacob Ramsey snubbed West Ham in favour of Newcastle, after the Hammers also approached Aston Villa.
Selling Jacob Ramsey for £38m to Newcastle United will be a serious boost to help Villa improve their PSR position, as the deal will represent pure profit for Villa in the accounts, due to the fact Ramsey has come through the ranks at Aston Villa.
The Mag report early this morning – 13 August 2025:
Newcastle United are now in talks with Aston Villa for the transfer of Jacob Ramsey.
Eddie Howe is a long-time admirer of the player and no surprise that he is now trying to finally land the player.
Back in January 2024 it was reported that Newcastle United had approached Villa for Jacob Ramsey but were knocked back.
Now Craig Hope of The Mail has had the exclusive on this renewed attempt to buy the versatile player.
Shortly after Malick Thiaw was officially unveiled as a Newcastle player on Tuesday night, the man from The Mail revealed that Aston Villa were in talks with United, negotiating the transfer price.
Hope says his information is that a deal worth around £40m is being discussed and things could now move very quickly, with a formal bid potentially put in as early as Wednesday (today).
Easy to see why Eddie Howe would be interested, still plenty room for improvement at the age of 24 and Jacob Ramsey carries the ball with pace. Another huge plus is he is very versatile, comfortable playing across the midfield and either wing.
The Mail report adds, ‘While there have been concerns over Ramsey’s fitness record in recent years, he played 45 times in all competitions last season.’
