Ivan Juric shared his views regarding Albert Gronbaek's continued starting lineup absence. In doing so, he opened up about his helplessness against playing the latter.
Last month, Southampton ironed out the final details to land the services of Albert Gronbaek. Tipped to impact the Saints' midfield ranks, the on-loan Denmark midfielder was anticipated to quickly become an integral part of the team.
Yet, those expectations haven't gone according to plan. According to stats, Gronbaek's only Premier League start came during Southampton's long-awaited triumph over Ipswich Town.
Since then, the versatile wide attacker has been left to wait for his chances from the bench. There's no denying that Gronbaek's debut outing wasn't convincing but it's high time Ivan Juric needs to try playing him up front.
At this moment, Southampton fans may wonder about an ongoing contrast in the playing eleven.
On one hand, the Saints are crying out for reliable defensive reinforcements. Comparing that with Gronbaek's situation suggests that the roster is well-stacked with attack-oriented talent.
Well, this is mere speculation but Juric's recent claim somewhat mirrors it.
Quizzed regarding Gronbaek's limited opportunities, Juric told the Daily Echo: "No, he can play more, but if I put Dibling and Sulemana, then I cannot put him in. Even today we put Mateus as a midfielder."
Honestly, this is such a miserable phase for Southampton. It's easy to wish that had they signed an extra center-back in January, the fitness concerns wouldn't have escalated this much.
Still, nothing can be done about previous decisions and the club must move forward to find solutions to claim some crucial Premier League points.
