Manchester United favourite Wes Brown has backed the Red Devils to beat Manchester City in Sunday’s Premier League derby at the Etihad Stadium.
United returned to winning ways on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
The club were trailing 1-0 at the hour mark, but they made a terrific comeback. Rasmus Hojlund scored a match-winning brace after coming off the bench.
United are scheduled to face City in the Manchester derby this weekend and ahead of the game, Brown has said that the Red Devils have a chance to win.
City have been in dreadful form with one win in 10 games in all competitions and the former United star believes they will feel the pressure.
He said in a recent interview: “I’m not sure how this one is going to go, I mean, Man City are obviously going to be the underdog (joking).
“Listen, I’ve always felt that over the last few games, we’ve always turned up a little bit, especially away from home.
“Will this be the lift off for Ruben’s revolution? It’s definitely an occasion where we could really turn it on.
“Obviously, we would have been training a lot more, the players should be more familiar with what he wants now, so for this game, you never know.
“I think Amorim might pick what he thinks is his best 11 for this game. He’s had a few weeks to look at his options and assess his players. It’s going to be very interesting.
“I think City will be better for this one, but Amorim would have been watching their games and he will know where United can get at them.
“It’s a derby. Previously, I would expect City to dominate the ball, but with the way they’re playing at the moment, you just don’t know.
“United have definitely got a chance to go there and win. City have been really sloppy lately. It’s definitely an opportunity for us, and I think all the pressure is on City as well.”
City did the league double over United last season with six goals scored in the process. However, United avenged those results by beating them in the FA Cup final.
The upcoming game should be an interesting encounter. City are often considered favourites for the derby, but we don’t anticipate a straightforward contest.
Pep Guardiola’s side have conceded a staggering 23 goals in the last 10 games. They have looked defensively vulnerable and United could capitalise on this.
The Red Devils were good defensively in the first half against Arsenal this month, but the Gunners stepped up after the break, scoring from two corners.
With more training sessions under their belt, we should witness a better performance from United.
Amorim got the better of Guardiola with Sporting CP last month with a 4-1 Champions League win at home.
Sporting CP were brilliant on the counter-attack and we could see a similar game plan on Sunday.
