Reading confirmed earlier this month that a period of exclusivity had ended with a potential buyer of the League One club.

The Royals remain in a difficult financial position amid growing pressure from supporters for Dai Yongge to sell his stake in the side.

However, there is now no clear timeline for when a takeover could take place, with the team also trying to fight for a play-off place in the third tier.

The existence of Reading could be under serious threat if a change in ownership doesn’t take place in 2025.

Player sales such as Sam Smith and Tyler Bindon in January have injected some much-needed cash into the club in the short-term, but it remains to be seen just how much time that will buy them.

When asked whether a takeover can be completed this year, FLW’s Reading fan pundit Johnny Hunt claimed that it has to happen if the club is to survive.

He has dubbed their situation as an absolute nightmare, but is hopeful a resolution can be found in order to save the Berkshire outfit.

“I think at the minute there’s no other option, we need to get a new owner in or the club won’t exist,” Hunt told Football League World.

“I think that’s the harsh reality, we’re living month by month.

“Selling players to pay the wages, that can’t go on indefinitely.

“There’s so few clubs under contract in the summer, it’s an absolute nightmare.

“It’s dragged on for over 500 days, new possible owners have come and gone, it’s never ending this, it’s a horrific situation.

“I honestly, not being over-dramatic, I can’t see the club existing if this situation isn’t sorted by the end of this year.

“It’s an absolute disaster, something needs to change, something needs to happen.

“I hope we find an owner soon that will take us out of this.

“It’s such a shame because, on the pitch, the guys are doing us so proud.

“Fingers crossed for a positive future.”

Reading are currently ninth in the League One table, one point adrift of the play-off places.

Reading supporters need concrete hope after false dawns

Labour MP Yuan Yang gave an interview with the BBC over the weekend that offered some hope to fans that a credible buyer can be found.

However, there have now been so many false dawns that supporters are likely to be wary of any developments until something concrete finally happens.

Noel Hunt’s team is working under extremely difficult circumstances, and they are doing the fans very proud with their performances.
