It was recently revealed that QPR have held talks with former Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup, after the 36-year-old was relieved of his duties at Carrow Road last month.

The Hoops still haven't technically sacked Marti Cifuentes, but have placed the 42-year-old on gardening leave, meaning that the club have taken his managerial duties away whilst still holding his contract, so a club can come in and pay compensation for his services.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, QPR are interested in the prospect of replacing Cifuentes with the former Norwich manager, with talks having taken place between the two parties.

"Would be embarrassing" - Johannes Hoff Thorup backed to succeed in the future

QPR finished just one point and two places below Norwich City in the Championship this season, but the R's feel that Thorup could be the man to take them higher up the table after a third consecutive finish in the bottom half of the second tier.

FLW’s Norwich City fan pundit, Zeke Downes, believes Thorup could be a good fit at Loftus Road if that is the road they end up going down.

“There's a good reason why QPR have held talks with Thorup over their manager position, because I think he'll end up being a really good manager and it's a shame that it's not with us," Zeke told FLW.

“For whatever reason it stopped working near the end of his time with us, but that's partly down to the players downing tools a little bit and clearly putting in less effort, which is not ideal.

“There were lots of injuries during the season, so I think he did get unlucky. A lot of the players were brought in by him but they were inexperienced, so they needed time to bed in.

“I can see him ending up doing a really good job elsewhere and I really wish him well. I hope that he does well, but not well enough to overtake us and get QPR into the play-offs, because that would be embarrassing."

Johannes Hoff Thorup will have a point to prove after Norwich City axe

Thorup’s time at Norwich ended on a sour note, losing six of his last eight games in charge at Carrow Road, as his team fell away from a potential play-off challenge.

Inexperience was ultimately Thorup’s achilles' heel, but that was always expected when the 36-year-old was appointed, with a long-term vision the ultimate goal.

However, the club have decided to go in a different direction for next season. Despite boasting a win percentage of just 30 per cent, there were also glimpses of hope last year for Norwich.

The Canaries ended the campaign as the division’s second-highest goalscorers, and the free-flowing, exciting brand of football Thorup installed at Carrow Road has other clubs interested in acquiring his services.

Suring up his defensive organisation will be on the Dane’s agenda wherever he goes, but some fresh personnel might aid that task.

Whether at QPR or elsewhere, the exciting young manager will be determined to prove his worth next season, potentially at the expense of his former employer.
