Francesco Acerbi has won praise for his performance for Inter Milan against Roma yesterday, even in a losing effort.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hail the 37-year-old for his nullifying of striker Artem Dovbyk and his tireless effort.
Francesco Acerbi may have been on the losing side of yesterday’s Serie A clash.
However, if there was one player who didn’t deserve to be, it was probably the Italian international.
Acerbi hardly put a foot wrong in defense. As he has done so often, the former Lazio and Sassuolo defender put in a highly-accomplished man-marking display.
Striker Artem Dovbyk is certainly a player Inter will have identified as a danger man for the Giallorossi.
However, thanks to Acerbi’s physicality and reading of danger, Dovbyk posed little threat in Inter’s penalty area. Furthermore, the Ukrainian struggled to link up with teammates.

And Acerbi did not just keep tabs on Dovbyk at the back.
The 37-year-old also used his anticipation to snuff out danger on a couple threatening Roma counterattacks.
Even at his age, Acerbi’s recovery pace and quick reaction were vital to keeping the scoreline respectable for Inter.
Then, the Gazzetta note, Acerbi’s defensive duties did not stop him from driving Inter up the pitch on a few occasions.
