Alessandro Bastoni has made himself “indispensable” as the most-used player at Inter Milan so far this season.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
There is certainly no questioning Bastoni’s quality.
The Italian international has established himself as a genuine pillar of Inter’s back three both defensively and with his contribution in possession.
But last season, Bastoni wasn’t necessarily always available.
The 25-year-old has had a couple spells on the sidelines with injuries. Moreover, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi did manage his minutes somewhat due to fitness-related reasons.
This campaign, though, the rests have been fewer and further between for Bastoni.
Inter coach Inzaghi has really relied on the Italian international to hold down his spot in defense.
Injuries to other players have also meant that the Nerazzurri coach has perhaps relied on Bastoni more than he’d have expected.
Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard are currently absent. Carlos Augusto also had a spell on the sidelines.
Bastoni is not the player with the most minutes for Inter in Serie A. Nor in the Champions League.
But the 25-year-old has been a fixture both domestically and in Europe. And he was also one of the only first-choice starters in the lineup against Udinese in the Coppa Italia.
Therefore, Bastoni has played 1460 minutes for Inter this season.
That has made the 25-year-old the outfield player with the most minutes for the Nerazzurri.
And Bastoni is nearly halfway to last season’s total.
