Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé has not been included by Didier Deschamps in the most recent France national team squad, which means he will not be involved when Les Bleues face Italy in San Siro in two weeks’ time.
Multiple European national teams have announced their squads on Friday ahead of the next international break coming up in November. Luciano Spalletti is set to reveal his selections on Friday afternoon.
Coming off the back of a 3-1 loss against Milan in the Champions League with Real Madrid, Mbappé has been left out of the France squad, which Deschamps claims is solely his decision.
“I made this decision on the selections because I think it’s best like that,” Deschamps said in his press conference on Friday.
“I can tell you two things: One, that Kylian wanted to come, and two, that it is not due to any non-sporting reasons. I repeat, it is a choice in this moment in order to prepare for the (specific) games that await us.”
Mbappé has not started for France since their 3-1 loss at home to Italy in September. The former PSG striker was not included in the last France national team squad in October, either.
Five Serie A representatives have been included in the France squad. Deschamps has included Milan pair Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, Lazio and Roma midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Manu Koné, Inter striker Marcus Thuram, plus former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is now at Marseille.
Italy and France will meet at San Siro on November 17. The Azzurri will also travel to Belgium to face Domenico Tedesco’s side on November 14.
