Real Madrid have booked their place in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 and will now face Italian giants Juventus after their defeat to Manchester City.
With this draw, all eyes now turn to what promises to be a high-profile knockout clash. But while fans may expect a tense affair, the mood in Italy suggests otherwise, as the local media are already sounding alarm bells about the challenge that lies ahead for Juventus.
Following Madrid’s commanding 3-0 win over RB Salzburg, the Italian press has openly admitted that the Serie A side face a massive uphill battle.
Under the leadership of Xabi Alonso, Los Blancos have looked strong and confident, topping their group with ease and showing real intent in every match. In contrast, Juventus have not looked like a side ready to challenge Europe’s best.
Italian outlets have not held back in their assessment. La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote, “Juve’s mission seems impossible,” while praising Real Madrid’s midfield trio of Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, and Arda Guler, saying they offer everything a coach could ask for.

“On paper, there are no options and no game against Real Madrid today,” the outlet admitted bluntly.
Corriere dello Sport also focused on Madrid’s dominance: “Real Madrid qualified comfortably and now face Juventus in Miami.”
Meanwhile, Tuttosport accepted that Juventus are far behind in terms of quality, adding that only near-perfect performances will help them compete against Xabi Alonso’s men.
Corriere della Sera highlighted the threat of Real Madrid’s attack, pointing to the goals scored by Vinicius Jr., Federico Valverde, and Gonzalo Garcia. “Juventus had no luck in Real Madrid vs. Salzburg.”
While Juventus prepare to face the challenge, it is clear Real Madrid go into the game with the upper hand, stronger, sharper, and with the confidence of a team in top form.
All signs point to Los Blancos being heavy favourites as they aim to continue their Club World Cup journey.
