Mehdi Taremi performed poorly in last night’s UEFA Champions League heavyweight clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan.
According to TMW, the Iran international ‘froze’ on a cold night in Germany, casting further doubt on his long-term prospects at Inter.
Manager Simone Inzaghi made several changes to the starting line-up that eased past Parma 3-1 in Serie A last Friday.
Taremi’s inclusion at the expense of Lautaro Martinez was one of the most significant alterations.
However, the 32-year-old proved an inadequate replacement for El Toro, failing to secure sufficient support for Marcus Thuram.
No stranger to high-stakes European fixtures, Taremi had started all five Champions League games for Inter before Tuesday night.
But while he had fared well against Arsenal and Manchester City, among others, he was unrecognizable last evening.
Except for forcing Edmond Taposba’s block, the former Porto talisman had no impact on the game.
With Inter gearing up for a pivotal league clash against Lazio, Inzaghi will likely reinstate El Toro.
Taremi’s early life at Giuseppe Meazza has been an epic disaster.
Performance-wise, he has been decent. However, a striker of Taremi’s caliber should’ve scored more than once in 16 appearances.
