Striker Mehdi Taremi is more and more ready to become “more than just a backup option” at Inter Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, highlight the 32-year-old’s goal for Iran in a World Cup qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan yesterday.

So far this season, Taremi has made one start for Inter, and has appeared twice from the bench.

The Iranian international has yet to score a goal for the Nerazzurri in Serie A.

However, the signs have certainly been there.

Taremi particularly impressed with his display against Lecce. There, he started in place of injured captain Lautaro Martinez, and found a very effective attacking chemistry with Marcus Thuram.

That match also saw the 32-year-old assist Matteo Darmian’s opening goal.

Meanwhile, Taremi had also had a very impactful cameo as a substitute against Genoa. He played a key role in the second goal for Thuram with a deft flick.

One thing there hasn’t yet been from the former Porto striker, however, is a goal.

However, even if Taremi has yet to get off the mark in an Inter shirt, he is always prolific for his country.

Yesterday, the Nerazzurri summer signing started for Iran in a World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan.

And Taremi was on the scoresheet.

The Inter striker found the back of the net a little after the half-hour mark. His goal proved to be the winner in a 1-0 victory for Team Melli.

And in the view of the Gazzetta, this was further evidence that Taremi will have more and more of a role at Inter.

The 32-year-old is a player at the peak of his powers.

Taremi has not looked to need much time to settle in at Inter.

And there is every indication that over the long season, the Iranian international will get plenty of chances to start for the Nerazzurri.
