Ipswich Town have a huge summer ahead of them, as they best prepare for life back in the Championship.

Kieran McKenna’s side enjoyed back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League but are set to play second-tier football next term after suffering relegation from the top-flight.

As a result, there is sure to be a number of incomings and outgoings at Portman Road in the transfer window.

Football League World’s Ipswich Town fan pundit, Adam Wilkin, believes one player in particular is likely to leave the Tractor Boys this summer.

Cameron Burgess' Ipswich Town exit predicted

“I think Cameron Burgess is probably the one player who will be the most disappointed off the back of last season,” stated Adam.

“Whenever he was called upon, he was excellent, but Town spent a lot of money on Jacob Greaves to come in and be that first-choice left centre-half, a player for the future who will improve. That has seen Burgess' game time limited a little bit.

“His contract is expiring in the summer, so he'll be considering his options, and that means there is more of a chance that he may make his exit in the summer.

“I don’t think he will want to hang around and be a Championship squad player, given his age and now that he's tasted the Premier League. I think he's one of the players in the squad who is most likely to move on, and that is something that I'd be very sad about. I think he's had an excellent season in the Premier League when he's played.

“He has stepped up at every level he's been at and exceeded my expectations. Back when we were in League One, I didn't think he could cut it in the Championship. He's more than proved me wrong there. He was excellent in the Championship and barely put a foot wrong in the Premier League.

“He will be missed if he does move on, but I can see it happening, just given the Greaves transfer and his contract situation.”

Cameron Burgess could feature more in the Championship

Although Cameron Burgess won’t be satisfied with his limited playing time last season, he could become a crucial component for McKenna’s side once again next season.

The defender only featured 18 times in the Premier League, in comparison to the 39 Championship appearances he made the season before.

Therefore, it would be thought that if he stays at Portman Road, Burgess will enjoy a much more prominent role in the Town side.

Ipswich have confirmed that they have offered Burgess a contract extension, and that the pair are still currently negotiating a potential deal.

If the Tractor Boys can’t reach an agreement with the 29-year-old, he is sure to have a whole host of Championship clubs battling it out for his signature this summer.
