Ipswich Town have agreed a fee to sign West Brom defender Darnell Furlong.
Ipswich Town are set to complete a deal to sign 29-year-old West Brom defender Darnell Furlong after a deal between the two clubs has been agreed.
As reported by The Telegraph journaist John Percy via X, the Tractor Boys have agreed a fee with the Baggies for the experienced right-back.
Furlong has captained West Brom in all three Champioship matches so far, and was also sent off in the opening day win over Blackburn Rovers, but he has played his final match for Albion after six years at the West Midlands outfit.
Ipswich are looking to earn an immediate return to the Premier League following relegation last season, and have turned to West Brom full-back Furlong to help strengthen their defence.
Furlong, 29, brings a wealth of Championship experience to the Ipswich squad, having made over 260 appearances in the second-tier for QPR and the Baggies.
Having joined West Brom from QPR in the summer of 2019 for around £1.5 million, the Baggies are set to make a profit on the 29-year-old after nearly 250 appearances for the club.
The right-back has started in each of West Brom's opening three Championship games this season, though missed their cup tie defeat on penalties to Derby County after receiving a red card against Blackburn.
Ipswich are yet to taste victory following their return to the second tier, having drawn against both Birmingham City and Southampton and being defeated by Preston North End in their most recent outing.
The Tractor Boys have also been knocked out of the League Cup at the hands of League Two Bromley after a penalty shooutout defeat, which Furlong did not appear in as he was serving his suspension.
Furlong will link up with Kieran McKenna's side to boost their defensive options ahead of this season.
With the news of Conor Townsend suffering an ACL injury which will keep him out of action for the vast majority of this season, and Harry Clarke out with an injury until late September, reinforcements in defensive areas were top of McKenna's priorities before the deadline.
Ashley Young has arrived on a free transfer following his release from Everton, and is able to play as either a left-back or a right-back, offering cover for the first-choice pairings of Ben Johnson and Leif Davis.
However, according to Stuart Wilson from the East Anglian Daily Times, Furlong's arrival could yet see Johnson depart the club, having been linked with Premier League side Fulham earlier in the window.
Johnson only arrived from West Ham last summer on a free transfer, signing a four-year deal in Suffolk, with Capology ESTIMATING him to be on £30,000 a week at Portman Road, but he too could have kicked his final ball in Ipswich colours, with a potential exit in the offing.
