Simone Inzaghi complains a refereeing oversight means the Bologna winner was ‘not fair,’ but insists Inter are still in the Scudetto race. ‘The season doesn’t end here.’
This could prove to be a massive turning point in the title race, because after Napoli beat Monza 1-0 yesterday, the three-point gap at the top of the table was wiped out by a stoppage-time Riccardo Orsolini scissor-kick volley.
The importance of the match was obvious by the touchline tension, which also spilled over after the final whistle.
“There was tension over that last throw-in, which was taken 12-13 metres further forward from the original position,” Inzaghi told DAZN.
“That is just an objective fact. Having said that, we still could’ve dealt better with the situation, as two of us went to jump and it should always be one.”
The referee sent off both Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano and Inzaghi’s assistant manager Massimiliano Farris for a different touchline row, while Tucu Correa was booked on the bench for dissent.

“The referee tried to officiate in the best way he could, but the ball went out near my feet and the throw-in was taken in front of the Bologna technical area.
“Anyway, it shouldn’t be an alibi, we should’ve been more focused. There is disappointment, we expelled a lot of energy, so it’s disappointing to lose this way. The ball simply should not have been allowed to get to Orsolini.”
Inter are the only Italian team still in three tournaments, so playing a 2-2 Champions League quarter-final with Bayern Munich on Wednesday took a lot out of them.
“Bologna were well-prepared, but so were we, it was a very even match, which is why it hurts to lose like this. We will get back on our feet,” assured Inzaghi.
“The season does not end in Bologna. We must accept everything, even conceding a goal like that.”

Did the coach speak to the players in the locker room and what was their mood?
“We have to accept it, and at this moment they were not prepared to accept it,” explained Inzaghi.
“I tried to show them how we conceded the goal and that we needed to defend better, but they kept saying the throw-in was 12 metres further forward and that was not fair.
“However, they are great professionals, great men, and they will understand that they must react and defend better.”
There was more bad news, as Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were both booked, so will be suspended for next week’s tricky Serie A match against Roma.
“We hope to have Thuram, Zielinski and Dumfries back soon, we won’t have Bastoni and Mkhitaryan against Roma, so they will probably play on Wednesday instead,” concluded Inzaghi.
Inter are back in action on Wednesday with the Coppa Italia semi-final against Milan, having drawn the first leg 1-1.
