Valentin Carboni is a known transfer target for Olympique Marseille, but Simone Inzaghi insists the creative midfielder is ‘in the future of Inter.’
The talent just turned 19 in March and impressed during a loan spell at Monza last season, earning him a place in the Argentina squad for the Copa America.
He found the net twice with four assists in 32 games for Monza, helping them to finish comfortably mid-table.
West Ham United made an approach in January, but this summer Roberto De Zerbi’s Olympique Marseille are pushing hard for his signature.
The cost would be above €20m plus add-ons, though Inzaghi said in today’s press conference that it is by no means certain Carboni will be leaving.
“We saw what he did at Monza, he had a very good start to the Copa America, he is in the future of Inter and I am waiting for him after that tournament.
“We have an extra option with Carboni, as we can play with two players behind the centre-forward. In some situations, he could be a wing-back, or stay wider and run at opponents.
“Having him in the squad can improve us. We don’t really have one-on-one players who can do that, but compensate with other qualities.”
Meanwhile, Inter have sent Franco Carboni – Valentin’s 21-year-old brother – to River Plate on a one-season loan with option to buy for €4m.
The Nerazzurri also have a counter-option set at €12m.
