Stefano Vecchi’s Inter U23 side played their first friendly after their first few days of training in Riscone. At the Stadio Briamasco, they faced a Trento side who, like the Nerazzurri, will compete in Group A of the upcoming Serie C Sky Wifi season.
There were positive signs right from the start for the Nerazzurri, who pushed hard in the opening minutes. Inter nearly took the lead through Berenbruch, who curled narrowly wide after being picked out by Kamate (7’). Shortly after, Cocchi also had a go, but his tame right-footed shot didn’t trouble the Trento keeper. Trento responded in the 21st minute, with Melgrati producing an excellent stop to deny Maffei. However, there was nothing the Inter keeper could do on the half-hour mark, when Benedetti finished off an assist from Chinetti with a brilliant backheel to give the hosts the lead. Vecchi’s side reacted just before half-time: Topalovic struck from distance with a right-footed effort that caught Tommasi off guard, netting the first-ever goal in Inter U23’s history.
The second half began with a much-changed Inter side: only Spinaccè remained from the starting XI. The first chance fell to Trento, with a long-range free-kick from Fossati that sailed over without troubling Raimondi. In the 69th minute, the hosts regained the lead as Mayr beat Raimondi from close range. The tempo dropped in the middle stages of the half, though Zouin tried to spark something with a powerful right-footed strike from a tight angle that wasn’t far off target. Barlocco was in place to save an attempt from Luca Di Maggio, after which Motta shot narrowly wide from the middle of the box. The Nerazzurri kept pressing and finally got their reward deep into stoppage time: Fontanarosa rose highest to meet a Di Maggio corner and headed it into the bottom corner to make it 2–2.
A strong result and promising performance in Inter U23’s first ever friendly, as Stefano Vecchi’s side continue to prepare for their first competitive outing against Lumezzane in the Coppa Italia Serie C at 21:00 CEST on Saturday 16 August.
