Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco has denied that an Instagram post about loving the Nerazzurri was aimed at former teammate Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to the 7 insert in yesterday’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInter1908, the 25-year-old suggested that the post was meant to be more general despite some interpreting it as a dig at the Belgian.

Last month, the headlines around Inter were dominated by the dramatic fallout with striker Romelu Lukaku.

The 30-year-old’s negotiations with Juventus enraged the Nerazzurri’s directors enough to completely pull the plug on attempts to sign him.

And as far as Inter’s dressing room goes, the feeling was one of bafflement.

Unsurprisingly, the Nerazzurri’s squad didn’t know what to make of the seeming lack of loyalty.

It was amid this backdrop that Dimarco made an Instagram post about returning to training. The Italian international ended the post by writing that “The only thing that always remains intact is the Nerazzurri shirt.”

“And the feeling from those of us who truly love it,” he concluded the post.

Many interpreted this as hitting out at Lukaku. After all, the Belgian had on several occasions professed his love for Inter, the club and the fanbase.

Then, the Belgian’s willingness to flirt with Juventus came as an especially big shock.

However, for his part Dimarco has denied that he meant any sort of dig at his old teammate with the post.

Asked if the post was a reference to Lukaku, Dimarco replied “In reality, no.”

He continued that “I meant to make people understand the fact that players come and go.”

“Undoubtedly, the players who departed gave a lot,” the 25-year-old continued. This summer saw veterans like Samir Handanovic, Marcelo Brozovic, Milan Skriniar, and Edin Dzeko leave Inter among others.

“But what always remains is the Inter shirt.”

Dimarco emphasized “Inter above everything else.”

“Every player who came in, just like every players from last season, has to do everything to bring Inter to the top,” he added.
