Inter Milan have made signing a centre-back the priority this summer, with Parma’s Giovanni Leoni their top target.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri are ready to spend €30 million, whilst Parma want €40 million.

Inter Milan have already made three signings this summer. They have brought in Petar Sucic, Luis Henrique, and Ange-Yoan Bonny.

Therefore, Inter have worked to bolster the squad in midfield and attack.

However, one area in which there have been no new arrivals for Inter is at the back.

And that is a problem considering the age of many of the players in Inter’s defensive ranks.

Francesco Acerbi turns 38 next season. Meanwhile, Stefan de Vrij will turn 34 and Matteo Darmian 36.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri can hardly afford to keep counting on these veterans without also injecting some youth into their defense.

For this reason, reports the Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan will sign a defender this summer. Even if they do not sell any of the defenders currently in their ranks.

And clearly, the most important aspect would be to sign a young defender.

There is one name above all that checks all of Inter’s boxes. They are ready to accelerate their pursuit of Parma defender Giovanni Leoni.

Inter are ready to earmark around €30 million to a move for Leoni, reports the Gazzetta.

However, that may not be enough for Parma. The Emilian club are reportedly holding out for €40 million.

Therefore, Inter also have a notable backup target. They are also eyeing up Genoa’s Koni De Winter.

The Grifone would want a fee of around €25-30 million for former Juventus defender De Winter.

Moreover, Inter are also close to loaning Valentin Carboni to Genoa. Therefore, they could look to set up a deal for De Winter as part of the same talks.
