Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta is enthusiastic about the club’s chances of lifting the UEFA Champions League title this season.
Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, Marotta conceded there’s still a long road ahead but confirmed the club’s ambition to climb to the top of Europe.
As one of the continent’s most in-form sides, Simone Inzaghi’s men are on the verge of securing automatic knockout qualification.
With three games left, including tonight’s clash against Bayer Leverkusen, Inter boast the competition’s second-high 13 points.
Therefore, the reigning Scudetto holders are in pole position to join table-topping Liverpool as the first two sides to progress from the league phase.
Inzaghi picked Mehdi Taremi over Lautaro Martinez to join forces with Marcus Thuram in the final third at the BayArena.
Moreover, Marotta was supportive of his coach’s decision.
“As Inzaghi said, Taremi is a very serious individual and an exceptional professional,” he said.
“He deserves particular moments of joy.”
With numerous top European clubs blowing hot and cold, Inter’s chances of replicating the iconic 2010 success are high.
However, Marotta refuses to underestimate anyone.
“Every match determines the fate of a team. Although the current standings reveal some unexpectedly poor results for top clubs, it’s still early.
“The final is months away, and many things will change. We are pleased with our progress, which is rooted in a solid team structure.
“Inzaghi has been exceptional in managing player rotations, and the squad has responded well. This balance is vital.”
“We want to play a key role in this competition – it’s only fair to aim for that,” Marotta continued. “However, success also depends on our opponents.
“I remain optimistic, but the road ahead is long and filled with challenges. The current standings are only temporary.”
Meanwhile, Oaktree’s role in Inter’s noticeable surge has been pivotal.
“Sustainability is an ethical goal for all clubs, given the excessive spending in football,” Marotta stated.
“Achieving equilibrium requires creative market strategies and competence.
“Our management team has been working together for years, fostering alignment and delivering results both in the market and on the pitch.
“Oaktree has placed significant trust in us, delegating the management of this season, and we are operating effectively and harmoniously.”
