Beppe Marotta gives his “congratulations” to Napoli on the Serie A title, but notes they played nineteen matches fewer than Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri President aimed the dig at the Partenopei in the press conference ahead of the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, as reported by FCInterNews.
Inter Milan suffered heartbreak on the final day of the Serie A season.
The Nerazzurri had gone into the final day with some hope of winning the title. But that required Cagliari to take points off of Napoli – which they did not do.
However, in truth, the title was not lost on the final day for Inter.
Inter had opportunities to take control in the title race throughout the season. However, they were never fully convincing, and failed to put together a consistent run of form.
The Nerazzurri really lost out down the stretch.
Consecutive losses to Bologna and Roma were a hammer blow to Inter’s title ambitions. Then, a draw against Lazio represented the final big slip-up for the Nerazzurri.
However, the fact that these came amid the pressure, distraction, and fatigue of a busy Champions League and Coppa Italia schedule is also not a factor to overlook.

Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta said that “we came into this season wanting to do something great.”
“And we’ve succeeded in that. Reaching a second Champions League final in three years is something unrepeatable.”
“But we don’t want to leave out the other competitions,” the Nerazzurri President continued.
“We reached the semifinal of the Coppa Italia.”
“And we lost out in the title race,” Marotta continued. “Congratulations to Napoli.”
“We lost by a matter of centimetres. It’s a shame, but that’s sport.”
“I’d also like top underline the fact that compared to our rivals, the Italian champions, we played nineteen more matches,” the Inter President then hit out.
“That’s practically an entire half of a season,” he noted.
