Inter Milan and RB Leipzig are competing to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea in a deal that could trigger a transfer domino.
Chelsea are looking to offload Nkunku after two underwhelming seasons at Stamford Bridge. Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig have also enquired about the France international, with The Guardian reporting Inter are ready to rival that interest.
The Italian side want to bring in another forward to compete with Marcus Thuram, Yoan Bonny and Lautaro Martinez.
Chelsea want to sell Nkunku on a permanent deal, while the 27-year-old’s preference is also a permanent exit.
Bayern Munich had approached Chelsea over a loan-to-buy deal, but the offer was turned down. The German champions are not expected to meet Chelsea’s asking price for the player.
Leipzig are currently the frontrunners to re-sign their former forward with ‘confidence’ a fee can be agreed.
Nkunku scored 70 goals in 172 games for Leipzig during his first spell at the Red Bull Arena. He later signed for Chelsea for a fee of £52m and the Blues are expected to take a significant loss on his sale.
However, Nkunku’s exit for a permanent fee could free vital funds for Chelsea to make further signings. The West Londoners want to sign Xavi Simons, from Leipzig, for around £60m and also have interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. Personal terms have already been agreed with both players.
A move for a centre-back has also not been ruled out with Enzo Maresca keen to replace the injured Levi Colwill. The Italian outlined his interest in reinforcements after Colwill was ruled out for the majority of the 2025/26 campaign with an ACL issue.
