Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi wasn’t the best version of himself in last night’s UEFA Champions League loss at Bayer Leverkusen.

According to TMW, Frattesi had a rare night off at Europe’s top table after emerging as Inter’s best midfielder in the Champions League this term.

Frattesi started the game ahead of Nicolo Barella after recovering from a minor fitness problem last week.

However, the former Sassuolo star was a shadow of a player who boasts a reputation as one of Serie A’s most prolific midfielders.

In all fairness, none of the visiting players did anything noteworthy in the front third.

Frattesi has yet to make a goal contribution in Europe this season.

But that was the least of his problems at the BayArena.

Indeed, the 25-year-old never gained a foothold in the game, resulting in an ineffective performance.

Despite his commendable defensive effort, he seemed confused in possession, often surrendering the ball cheaply.

Head coach Simone Inzaghi withdrew Frattesi just after the hour mark, introducing Barella.

However, there’s a feeling he could’ve taken him off earlier.

If it’s any consolation for Frattesi, Barella’s introduction had almost no effect on proceedings.
