Inter Milan ace Alessandro Bastoni stressed the importance of three points in last night’s 2-0 home triumph against newly promoted Como.
Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, Bastoni confirmed the Italian champions aren’t at 100% amid a minor injury crisis.
Second-half strikes from Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram sealed the deal for Simone Inzaghi’s team.
In doing so, Inter made a piece of club history.
Indeed, it was their 13th successive home win against Como.
Never before had the Nerazzurri secured more consecutive victories against a specific opponent.
However, there’s no time for celebration, even though it’s Christmas.
That’s because Inter still trail table-topping Atalanta by three points.
But they can draw heart from having a game in hand on La Dea and second-placed Napoli.
Moreover, Inzaghi’s men have hit a purple patch in Serie A after losing to AC Milan in September.
Fresh off helping Inter post a ninth win in their last 11 league games, Bastoni highlighted the significance of seeing off Como.
“These are crucial points, maybe we’re not 100% sharp, partly because we were missing some key players,” Bastoni said.
“It was really important to recover Carlos, who can play in different roles.
“The others had all won, and it was important to give a positive response tonight. We just need to keep going like this; the schedule is tight.”
Inter will sign off for 2024 at Cagliari before departing for Saudi Arabia.
Indeed, they’ll meet Atalanta in a heavyweight Supercoppa Italiana semi-final tie in the Middle East in January.
“Now we’re heading to Cagliari and then to Riyadh on the 30th,” Bastoni added.
“It will be a tough challenge.
“But the important thing is to get everyone back as soon as possible to have substitutes for the rest of the season.”
