Inter Milan are reportedly pushing to sign Manchester United’s struggling forward, Rasmus Hojlund, with the aim of securing his services on loan for the upcoming season. This transfer move could potentially evolve into a multi-layered deal, depending on the performance of the Danish international.
Rasmus Hojlund made the switch from Atalanta to Manchester United in 2023 for a hefty £72 million (€85.9m, $97.6m). Despite high expectations, Hojlund has found it difficult to justify that substantial price tag, having scored just 26 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions. It’s clear that the 22-year-old has failed to hit the heights anticipated of him at Old Trafford, with just 16 of those goals coming in his final season at Atalanta.
The forward has found himself under increasing scrutiny, as his performances have not lived up to expectations. Even with his young age and promise, the striker has not shown the consistency or form needed to make an impact at Manchester United, leading to growing speculation regarding his future at the club.

Now, as reported by Inter Live, the Serie A side are eager to bring the Danish striker to the San Siro. Inter Milan are said to be particularly interested in signing Hojlund on an initial loan deal, with the possibility of making the move permanent based on certain performance conditions. This proposed deal could potentially be beneficial for both clubs, especially if Hojlund manages to regain form away from the spotlight of the Premier League.
The Italian club’s manager, Simone Inzaghi, is reportedly a fan of Hojlund, believing that he has the quality to succeed in Serie A despite his setbacks at United. Inter Milan’s confidence in his abilities is evident, but they are also mindful of the striker’s underwhelming season in England. While United have made it clear that they are willing to offload the player, it remains to be seen whether Inter will get their man at a price they deem fair.
Reports have suggested that Manchester United are open to cutting their losses on Hojlund this summer, with discussions already underway regarding the potential sale of the forward. The Red Devils are reportedly considering offers in the range of €50-55 million (£42-46m), which would be a significant drop from the €85.9 million United initially paid for his services.
While the club may be willing to part with Hojlund, there are other factors at play. United’s apparent plans to strengthen their forward line could see several players depart Old Trafford, with the club reportedly looking to sell Hojlund and fellow forward Joshua Zirkzee this summer. The incoming management team is likely focused on rebuilding the squad, with a focus on adding more clinical attackers who can deliver results in the Premier League.

Interestingly, Inter Milan’s assessment of the transfer situation may differ from the broader media narrative. According to the report, the Italian side believes that Manchester United’s asking price for Hojlund could be lower than the €55 million figure being speculated in the press. Furthermore, the Serie A giants feel confident in their ability to meet the 22-year-old’s wage demands of €4m, which are well within their budget.
Despite this, Inter Milan are unlikely to see Hojlund as an automatic first-choice striker. The club already boasts an effective attacking partnership between Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez, both of whom are established players at the top of their game. However, the addition of Hojlund could provide valuable depth and youthful competition for the pair, especially as Inter Milan look to continue competing for major honours.
As Manchester United’s disappointing season winds down, it seems increasingly likely that Rasmus Hojlund will be one of several players to leave Old Trafford in the coming months. His potential move to Inter Milan, whether on loan or a permanent transfer, could offer him a fresh start in Serie A. For United, it may be the opportunity to rebuild and move on from a high-profile signing that never truly worked out.
With an intriguing transfer window ahead, it will be fascinating to see how these developments unfold and whether Manchester United can extract the best value from a player who has, so far, failed to make a significant impact.
As a Manchester United supporter, it is difficult not to feel a sense of disappointment over the saga of Rasmus Hojlund. His arrival from Atalanta, hailed as a marquee signing, promised much for the future of the club’s attacking line. Instead, what we’ve seen is a player struggling to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, failing to deliver the goals and performances expected of someone with such a high price tag.
It’s clear that Hojlund’s potential remains, but it’s also evident that his time at Manchester United has been marked by inconsistency and growing frustration. With the club still in the process of rebuilding, it is becoming apparent that not every signing will prove to be a hit. The question must now be asked: is it worth keeping a player who is not fitting into the system, or should United take the opportunity to recoup some of their investment and move on?
As the club gears up for another transfer window under new manager Ruben Amorim, it’s crucial that they learn from the mistakes of the past. Signing players with immense potential is all well and good, but the club needs to focus on acquiring individuals who can perform consistently at the highest level.
The move to offload Hojlund could be seen as a necessary step in the club’s rebuilding process, but it’s hard not to feel that the whole episode was a missed opportunity. United must now ensure that their future signings will bring more immediate results, helping the club challenge for the trophies and honours that the supporters demand.
