Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi says that he was “certain” his team would do what they needed to do against Udinese.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to InterTV after this evening’s match, via FCInterNews.
Inter got back to winning ways at the Bluenergy Arena in Friuli this evening.
It was an up-and-down evening for the Nerazzurri, who needed three goals to ensure three points.
But in the end, Inter got the job done to get the result they needed.
Inter scored very early on in the match through midfielder Davide Frattesi.
However, some sloppy defending allowed former Watford defender Christian Kabasele to equalize for the Friulani.
Then, Inter captain Martinez scored twice either side of halftime to put his team in a commanding position.
A late goal from substitute Lorenzo Lucca made the closing stages very nervy ones for the Nerazzurri. But they held on for the result.
Inzaghi called today’s match “A win we really wanted.”
“I’m very happy with the performance that the guys put in,” he continued.,
“We got off to a great start in both halves. And the only regret for us is not having scored a few more goals in both halves.”
“And then we know that all Serie A matches are difficult,” Inzaghi added.
“We had to suffer as a team. But the players stayed focused for four days in training. I was certain that they’d have a great match, and they did.”
Meanwhile, Inzaghi said of his captain Martinez that “A striker should only worry when he’s not getting chances.”
“And [Martinez] has, even last weekend,” the Inter coach said.
“I’m happy for him, and for everyone else. I’m also thinking of Frattesi, his goal, and the performance in general.”
“We needed it,” Inzaghi said of Inter’s display.
“We were coming off the back of a loss. But the team played very well and I was happy with what I saw.”
