Inter Milan are chasing a record-breaking seventh consecutive win over AC Milan in the derby in tomorrow’s Serie A meeting.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
The last time that Milan beat Inter came in September of 2022.
That derby clash was an instant classic, with the Rossoneri edging a frenetic 3-2 thriller of a match.
Since then, however, it has been Inter dominance in the fixture. That dominance has not quite been unprecedented, but it has been close.
In January of 2023, Inter thrashed Milan 3-0 in the Supercoppa Italiana.
Then in the league meeting a couple of weeks later the Nerazzurri prevailed 1-0 in a match where the scoreline didn’t really convey how one-sided the match was.
In the spring of 2023, Inter and Milan faced off in a Champions League semifinal tie. The Nerazzurri won both legs, 2-0 and 1-0 scorelines.
If Milan hoped to put a stop to Inter’s run in the derby in 2023 at the start of last season, they got a rude awakening.
The Nerazzurri won the first of last season’s two league derby matches by an emphatic 5-1 scoreline.
The second meeting of the campaign had a less dramatic scoreline. Inter beat the Rossoneri by a scoreline of just 2-1.
However, it was an historic victory.
That is because the derby was the match in which Inter clinched the Serie A title. Neither team had ever done so prior.
Inter’s six derby wins in a row are just the third time in history that either of the two city rivals have enjoyed such a streak of dominance.
The Rossoneri had won six in a row twice. These came between 1911 and 1913, and then 1946 and 1948.
But now, Inter have the chance to go even further.
If the Nerazzurri are to win tomorrow, it will be the first time that either side has made it seven on the bounce in the derby.
