Inter Milan backup goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro will undergo surgery on a hand injury this week.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that the 31-year-old should be sidelined for a bit as he recovers.
Inter backup keeper Di Gennaro has suffered an injury to his finger during training this week.
The problem is a sprain to a finger on his left hand.
This will cause the goalkeeper to require surgery. And according to Sky, he will undergo the procedure in the next few days.
Di Gennaro is Inter’s third-choice keeper.
The 31-year-old has held down this role since the start of last season. He arrived in the summer of 2023.
Di Gennaro signed for Inter from Serie B side Gubbio. He arrived as a replacement for Alex Cordaz to become Inter’s third-choice keeper.
Like Cordaz, Di Gennaro is a player who came through Inter’s youth academy system, but left in search of playing time.
However, Di Gennaro returned in 2023 to become the third-choice keeper for Inter.
The 31-year-old has yet to make an appearance for Inter since his return. However, he has provided an experienced presence behind the scenes and a sense of attachment to the club.
Di Gennaro has been backing up Yann Sommer and Josep Martinez this season.
