Throughout the Nerazzurri’s league-title celebrations yesterday evening following their 1-1 draw to Lazio at the Stadio San Siro, Inter star-midfielder Hakan Calahanoglu spoke in an interview about the significance of attaining their 20th scudetto.

After falling short of the title throughout the first two year’s of Simone Inzaghi’s reign as the coach of Inter, the former Lazio coach’s attacking-minded tactics and fluid creativity came into fruition, allowing the Benemata to transform into a ruthless force within the top-flight Italian league.

A key factor in Inter’s remarkable run of form this season was the impeccable resurgence of Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

After struggling to maintain consistency throughout his four-year stint with cross-city rivals Milan after joining the Rossonerri in the summer of 2017 from Bundesliga outfits Bayern Leverkusen, Calhanoglu flourished under Inzaghi as a holding midfielder.

The deep-lying midfielder enabled Inter to me a tremendous menace in transition, executing perfectly weighted passes in between the lines as well as providing with security when-in possession.

The 30-year-old reached his peak in terms of form this season, amassing 13 goals and three assists in 31 appearances in this year’s Serie A season, making a claim for himself to be amongst the top midfielders in the world.

Whilst speaking into the microphones of Sport Mediaset, via TuttomercatoWeb, Calhanoglu provided his perspective on the Nerazzurri seizing their second star in remarkable fashion:

“It’s a dream. I thank everyone. Since my first year the fans have helped me a lot: my teammates first, then certainly the fans helped me raise my value.”

On the work done with the team:

“Our goal is to write as much history as possible with this wonderful club and I believe we have started with the second star. We hope to continue like this.”

A declaration of love for the supporters.

“I’ve been in Milan for seven years, but my blood is Nerazzurri.”
