Inter Miami part ways with Phil Neville following poor run of form | OneFootball

Major League Soccer club Inter Miami have announced that they have parted company with manager Phil Neville.

The Herons lost 1-0 to New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, leaving them bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Miami also lost their three previous league games and have won just five times in 15 matches this term.

Ten defeats have left them struggling this term, and Neville has been made to pay for their woeful form.

Miami, who have been linked with Lionel Messi, finished sixth last term to qualify for the final series play-offs.

Neville joined the Florida-based club in January 2021 after his resignation as England Women’s manager.

They finished 11th in the Eastern Conference in his first season and improved last year.

However, Miami’s co-owner and former Manchester United teammate David Beckham reckoned it was time to ring the changes.

Neville led the club to the MLS Cup play-offs in 2022, and five academy graduates made their first team debuts under him.

He made headlines for swearing at a reporter last month for interrupting him in a post-match conference.

Neville also hit back at the fans after they booed his son Harvey when he came on as a substitute on Wednesday.

The supporters called for his head during the game and have now got their wish.

Miami have made Neville’s assistant Javier Morales their manager on an interim basis.

Assistant manager Darren Powell, goalkeeper coach Sebastian Saja and performance analyst Alec Scott will remain in their current roles.
