Liverpool’s march toward a potential Premier League title has received a timely boost as Trent Alexander-Arnold resumed light training at Kirkby, The Athletic reports. The England international has missed the Reds’ last four fixtures following an ankle injury sustained during Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.
His presence back on the training pitch, albeit in a limited capacity, offers more than just tactical reinforcement—it lifts spirits. As one of the most influential figures in the squad and vice-captain under Arne Slot, Alexander-Arnold’s recovery is a matter of both form and leadership.
Alexander-Arnold was involved in portions of Wednesday’s session, with Slot and his medical staff managing his workload carefully. Full reintegration into the first-team setup will be gradual, ensuring he returns fully fit for the final stretch of the season.

Liverpool currently sit 13 points clear of second-placed Arsenal, and with momentum firmly behind them, the focus now turns to managing key players ahead of critical matches. While Sunday’s clash with Leicester City may come too soon for the 25-year-old to feature, the following weekend’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield appears a more realistic target.
The Athletic previously reported that Alexander-Arnold was confident of returning before April’s end, despite being diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. With Liverpool’s schedule intensifying and the title almost within reach, his comeback couldn’t be better timed.
Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Anfield is set to expire this summer, fuelling speculation about his future. Real Madrid remain optimistic about signing him on a free transfer, yet the player’s focus remains on his recovery and Liverpool’s title campaign.
“Trent’s situation is that unfortunately he’s injured,” said Arne Slot. “He’s fully focused on his recovery and we are trying to help him to get back as soon as we can.”
Despite the contract noise, Slot has reiterated his intent to select the academy graduate when available. As Liverpool’s campaign hits its most decisive phase, keeping calm amid speculation is paramount.

Darwin Nunez also returned to team training on Wednesday after missing the 2-1 victory over West Ham United due to illness. His reintroduction adds another attacking option for Slot as Liverpool prepare for Sunday’s trip to the King Power Stadium.
Joe Gomez remains sidelined with a hamstring issue, but confidence remains that he’ll be available before the end of the season.
Liverpool could clinch the Premier League title this weekend should Arsenal falter away at Ipswich Town and the Reds take all three points at Leicester. While it’s not yet mathematically confirmed, the narrative is taking shape—and Alexander-Arnold’s return is a central subplot.
