Despite Real Madrid’s historical dominance in Spanish football, their recent record against Atletico Madrid under Ancelotti has been underwhelming.

Real Madrid’s poor record against Atleti

In their last four LaLiga meetings, Los Blancos have failed to secure a victory, drawing three times and losing once. This statistic is particularly concerning given the tight race for the title.

Since Ancelotti’s return to Real Madrid, his head-to-head record with Diego Simeone remains evenly balanced across all competitions.

In 23 Madrid derbies, Ancelotti and Simeone have each won eight times, with the remaining seven encounters ending in draws.

However, when focusing solely on LaLiga, Simeone holds a clear upper hand. In their 11 league meetings, the Argentine coach has emerged victorious five times, compared to Ancelotti’s mere two wins, while four matches ended level.

Ancelotti’s struggles against Atletico date back to his first spell at the club. Between 2013 and 2015, the Italian faced Atlético Madrid 13 times, winning only four and losing five.

Notably, he failed to beat Simeone in LaLiga during this period. However, he did lead Real Madrid to their historic tenth Champions League title with a dramatic victory over Atletico in the 2014 final.

Keeping these things in mind, Ancelotti will be eager to change the narrative tonight by guiding Real Madrid to a crucial win.

The tension is already high heading into this game, with Atletico Madrid escalating the war of words with Real Madrid following their remarks over the refereeing.
