Manchester United returned to winning ways in midweek with a 4-1 Europa League victory over Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were tied 1-1 on aggregate after the first leg of the round of 16. They registered an impressive 4-1 win over the La Liga outfit in the return leg.
Casemiro was one of the stand-out performers against the Spanish side. He won seven ground and aerial duels and also made four recoveries and one tackle.
The Brazilian was given a huge round of applause when he was substituted, and manager Ruben Amorim has since admitted that he is learning how to use him.
He told TNT Sports (via Manutd.com): “I think I’m also learning how to use players like Casemiro and, like you said, without a lot of options, we are trying to put our players in the best positions and that helps us a lot.”
Earlier this year, Amorim said that Casemiro does not have the ‘characteristics‘ to start regularly and the midfielder does not fit into his playing style at United.
Injuries to Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte have paved the way for Casemiro to be reinstated into the XI. Amorim has now hinted that the 33-year-old could have a future at the club.
Casemiro, described as ‘world-class‘ by manager Brendan Rodgers, has another year left on his contract. There are no signs that he could depart at the current point.
United will no doubt explore potential offers to sell him this summer, but Amorim’s comments suggest that the midfielder could still remain at Old Trafford next season.
The Red Devils visit the King Power Stadium for Sunday’s late Premier League kick-off against Leicester City.
Casemiro could start in the number six role again ahead of Manuel Ugarte, who has just returned from injury.
